Celaine Charles lives in the Pacific Northwest where she teaches elementary school, writes fantasy fiction and poetry, and blogs about her writing journey on Steps In Between.

On the fiction side, Celaine’s YA Fantasy, Seam Keepers (The Wild Rose Press), released in May 2021, and won a first place gold award (in the category of YA/Sci-fi) through Moonbeam Children and Young Adult book awards, 2021. Her sequel, Dream Keepers is on its way in 2026!

Her new adult, holiday, paranormal, romance novella, Stained Glass Secrets and Star Wishes, (The Wild Rose Press, Christmas Cookies Series) launched November 2022, and was a finalist in the Central Region Oklahoma Writers NEST (National Excellence in Story Telling) for paranormal short story.

On the Poetry side, Celaine’s book, Three Hearts Stitched (Egret Lake Books), launched January 2024. It’s a full length poetry collection expressing three voices of adoption…birth mother, adopting family, and child.

Colors Collected (Palmetto Publishing Group), debuted in August 2019. This book stemmed from her online poetry series, Colors, hosted on Channillo.com, and was awarded Best New Series, Best Continuing Series, and Best Poetry Series for the 2018 Channillo Awards. One hundred percent of the proceeds from her Channillo series is donated to an organization helping families and children experiencing homelessness.

Previous poetry works include shared poetry with the Tupelo Press 30/30 Challenge Project, and various publications: Best Poetry, Dime Show Review, Kingdoms in the Wild, Nine Muses Poetry, Spillwords press, The Seattle Star, and The Sunlight Press, among others. In addition, Celaine was a poetry finalist in the PNWA Literary Contest, July 2017.

She’s gone on to final and win prizes in other literary contest categories, including a first place for her children’s picture book manuscript, Dandelion View!

Blogging on www.stepsinbetween.com began in 2017 as Celaine went public with her desires to publish and to encourage other writers in their craft. This has been a place to document her writing journey, yet she also writes helpful tips and advice-filled articles for other writers and creators.

What keeps this author going? Motivation fueled by allergy-free dark chocolate and lots of love and support from her family, friends, and an extensive writing community (her Writing Critique Group—The Write Club, the PNWA, Storyteller Academy, her freelance editor Christine Grabowski, publishing editor Eilidh MacKenzie from The Wild Rose Press, and publishing editor Tess Jones from Egret Lake Books, not to mention her amazing beta-readers).

When Celaine isn’t writing, she is usually reading, watching movies, or hiking and walking in her beautiful home of Washington State. She takes a million pictures on every venture, as nature is always her muse.

In the end, Celaine believes in giving back. She loves helping writers of any age or stage in their writing process. For the last four years she’s led poetry workshops in PTSA-funded school visits to celebrate National Poetry Month.
